Statement: Mayor Carolyn Parrish Condemns Weekend Violence

Office of the Mayor Crest

November 4 , 2024

I am deeply disappointed by the acts of violence that occurred this past weekend outside places of worship in Mississauga and Brampton. As your Mayor, I firmly uphold the principles of inclusivity, acceptance, and equity, and I unequivocally denounce this violence. I stand resolutely against any actions or events that promote violence, discrimination, or undermine the rights and dignity of our community members.

Our community prides itself on fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates our diverse population. Hatred in any form is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate any actions that limit our residents’ ability to live free from discrimination. Free speech is a fundamental right we cherish as Canadians, but hate speech and harassment will not be tolerated in Mississauga or anywhere else.

Thank you, Chief Nish, the Peel Regional Police and to our City By-law Enforcement and Security Services for your swift response in protecting our community and your ongoing efforts to ensure our safety. We respect the right to peaceful and safe protests but will not tolerate violence and criminal acts. Those involved in committing acts of violence must be held accountable.

Carolyn Parrish
Mayor
City of Mississauga
